Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Ion Chicu participated in the special session of the UN General Assembly dedicated to COVID-19, which took place in online format, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
In his speech, Chicu spoke about the challenges of the global pandemic and the need for global solidarity and partnership to overcome this crisis together.
"The pandemic crisis has revealed how vulnerable and exposed we are all. In the face of uncertainty and unpredictability. In the face of fears and limitations. How much our freedom and choices affect us. How it dramatically affects our behavior and profoundly changes our lives. But more than ever, he made it clear that global challenges require coordinated efforts, solidarity and global responses, based on the guiding principles of a shared responsibility. There is also a need for strong political commitment, lasting partnerships, dedicated dedication and action at all levels and by all stakeholders - governments, communities, citizens. We all have significant roles in this process - at the national, regional and global levels," Chicu said.
The premier made an assessment of the epidemiological situation in our country, noting that the government guided by the National Response Plan to COVID-19 and strongly supported by external partners immediately mobilized to implement the necessary measures in a timely manner and submit all further efforts to combat the pandemic, to recover the worst-affected areas and to support each entrepreneur and citizen.
In this context, he expressed gratitude for the support provided by development partners, including the World Health Organization to combat the virus and its consequences. "Extremely valuable assistance and support, medicines, personal protective equipment, consumables, especially the expertise provided by the UN system in our country, including through the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the WHO office in Moldova, helps us to meet the challenges and reduce our country's vulnerability to the pandemic. Thank you and we are deeply grateful to you," he said.
Chicu talked about the need for global solidarity, saying that humanity now needs, more than ever, a massive effort in public health. And because health is a fundamental human right, it is absolutely imperative that every citizen has equitable access to a Covid-19 vaccine, to diagnosis and treatment at affordable, safe, effective and available to all, anywhere in the world.
"In a highly interconnected world, unity and solidarity is not just a moral imperative - it is a practical necessity. It is our responsibility and our moral commitment to remain united. Overcoming this challenge through solidarity and unity and building a better post-COVID-19 world is not negotiable. Reclaiming the value of our freedoms and choices, engaging more actively in creating equal opportunities for all, advancing the promotion of the 2030 Agenda, respecting the dignity and rights of all in a prosperous, secure, inclusive, sustainable and resilient world - it is our only way to build a prosperous future for the world ", concluded the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
