Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/- Most farmers are protesting today in front of the Moldovan parliament where a plenary session will take place. Dozens of policemen were mobilized to ensure public order.
Farmers are protesting against the increase in value added tax from 8 to 12% and are demanding more support from the government.
Since the beginning of the protest, there have been several altercations between protesters and law enforcement. Police urge all protesters to exercise their right to free speech peacefully, to comply with the instructions of law enforcement, restrictions imposed by the authorities, not to come with messages inciting aggression, violence or other actions dangerous to the safety of citizens.
Dozens of tractors have been parked for about a week in the Grand National Assembly Square in the capital. Farmers say they have been underpinned by the government following this year's drought.
