Wine sector in Moldova to be adjusted to European standards

Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/- One of the priorities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) is to improve and adjust the wine sector to European Union standards.

Secretary of State Vasile Șarban had a meeting with Jasna Cacic, expert of the European Union for consolidating the competitiveness of the wine sector and Cristina Frolov, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine. During the meeting, the parties discussed the activities in the wine field and the possibilities of harmonizing the legislative-normative base in the sector.

The mission of the expert is funded in the form of a grant by the EU within the project "Mission of the High Councilors of the European Union for the Republic of Moldova", which will be completed in December.

MAFI previously announced that this year the production of grapes from the Republic of Moldova will be about 15-25% higher than last year or over 30% lower than the average of the last five years. This is despite the unfavorable weather conditions - late frosts and heavy and frequent rains this year.

According to the National Office of Vine and Wine, the harvest forecast for 2021 varies between 6.0-9.0 tons / ha. At the same time, statistical data show that, this year, the stocks of wine products have decreased and are about 284 min liters, a volume insufficient to meet the contractual obligations of the year.
