Emergency state extended by another 45 days in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - The emergency state has been extended in Moldova by another 45 days starting from 24 June 2022. Fifty nine lawmakers voted for the prolongation of the state of emergency today.  

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita unveiled the request on the extension of the emergency state in parliament’s plenum.

According to the prime minister, the need to extend the state of emergency is prompted by the persistent risks as to the security of Moldova’s supply with energy resources, the impact on the transports sector, the country’s energy supply, security at the border and management of the flow of refugees. In these conditions, the Commission for Emergency Situations will be able to quickly intervene, if it is necessary to take decisions additionally to the ones established by the current legal framework, in order to provide all consumers with energy resources and maintain the state’s energy security.   

„On 24 February 2022, at a proposal by Moldova’s government, under the Decision No 41/2022, the parliament declared state of emergency on the entire territory of the country, taking into account the imminent danger to the national security, triggered by the war in Ukraine. Subsequently, under the Decision No 105/2022, also at the government’s proposal, the parliament instructed the prolongation of the emergency state by 60 days, a period which expires today. I came in front of you in both situations, just as I come today, in order to justify the need of extending the emergency state and of empowering the Commission for Emergency Situations to adopt the measures which we have together described as necessary, in order to be able to manage the unprecedented crises, triggered by the war in Ukraine,’’ Gavrilita said.     

The opposition boycotted the prolongation of the state of emergency and walked out of the session hall.

For the first time ever, state of emergency was declared all over Moldova on 17 March 2020.
