Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - Law-enforcers have warned citizens not to leave minor children without supervision, in order to prevent risk situations. The head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Viorel Cernautanu, made the urge at a news conference today.

According to the IGP leadership, the number of incidents with children’s involvement increases on the summer period. ‘’Last year on the vacation period, over 150 minors left their homes. At the same time, 333 offences and 150 traffic accidents occurred with children’s involvement, in the wake of which five children died. Therefore, we urge citizens not to leave children without supervision. Minors smaller than 12 years are in the risk group,’’ Cernautanu said.

Also, policemen warned the residents about children’s actions in the online environment. ‘’We recommend monitoring the children during online activities/games; we should be attentive to their behavior, so that they do not become victims of online offences. Also, it is important for the small children not to be left alone in street or at home, while their parents are at work. It is necessary to restrict their access to medicines and dangerous objects. Adults must be attentive whom they communicate with and whom they inform that they leave home. At the same time, we recommend everybody to keep their personal assets in safe places, in order not to become victims of thieves,’’ Cernautanu noted.

Policemen informed that, on the summer period, they would boost the activities of monitoring in parks, entertainment centres and areas, in order not to allow abuses against minors or other categories of people. Once risk situations appear, citizens are urged to inform about incidents by calling the 112 Single Service or appealing to the district policeman.
