Moldovan deputy premier chaired meeting of national committee for combating trafficking in human beings

Chisinau, June 24 / MOLDPRES /- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu chaired the meeting of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, which presented and approved the Report on policy implementation in combating and preventing trafficking in human beings in 2021, the MAEIE press service has reported.

During the discussions, the members of the Committee referred to the main trends in the field of combating trafficking in human beings, as well as the main achievements in this sector during 2021.

The policy implementation report in the field of combating and preventing trafficking in human beings is structured in chapters, in accordance with the paradigm of the 4P of the policy - Prevention, Protection, Punishment, Partnership (recommended by international standards in this field), and addresses changes in the legal framework and institutional in the field. At the same time, the document reflects the progress of the implementation of the Action Plan for 2021-2022 on the implementation of the National Strategy for Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings for 2018-2023 and the activity of the Territorial Commissions for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in 2021.

Committee members pointed out that by 2021 there will be an increase in the number of identified cases of trafficking in human beings and a decrease in identified cases of trafficking in children, compared to the same period in 2020.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu highlighted the contribution of national authorities in diligently fulfilling their responsibilities, especially in the context of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, as well as the war in Ukraine which required strengthening efforts to manage the flow of refugees. arrived in the Republic of Moldova.

"Our country continues to host a large number of refugees, mostly women, children and the elderly, vulnerable to this scourge called trafficking in human beings, which emphasizes our degree of responsibility and the importance of maintaining efforts especially in the field of prevention ", said Popescu.

The Moldovan official thanked the external partners for their continued support of the anti-trafficking policies in our country and the support provided in the context of managing the refugee crisis.
