First automatic atmospheric air quality monitoring station launched in Chisinau

Chisinau, June 25 / MOLDPRES /- The first online air quality monitoring station in the Republic of Moldova was launched yesterday in Chisinau. The station will record pollution mainly influenced by emissions from car traffic, including software, gas analyzers and consumables.

This station will have the capacity and possibility to monitor online five of the most common pollutants generated by exhaust gases, providing information to all bodies with control and decision-making functions.

Minister of Environment Iuliana Cantaragiu said at the inauguration event that at national level, according to the needs, 18 online monitoring stations must be activated. "The launch of this station is a step forward for the Republic of Moldova in its development and proximity to European Union standards in terms of atmospheric air protection," said Cantaragiu.

For his part, Ulrich Kinne, Chargé d'Affaires of the German Embassy in Chisinau, stressed that, as part of the Association Agreement with the EU, the Republic of Moldova has committed itself to transposing a number of EU directives into national law. This includes the European Parliament's directive on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe. "Therefore, Moldova must carry out a comprehensive monitoring of air quality and make the effort to reach the level below the limit values ​​of the European Union," the German diplomat said.

The construction was donated to the Republic of Moldova by the German Government based on the strategy of implementing ambient air quality monitoring and management, according to EU standards in the Republic of Moldova, developed within the global program of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). climate policy in the Western Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia ”.
