Moldovan poet paid homage at 80th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - A festive event dedicated to the 80th birthday anniversary of writer Titus Stirbu has taken place at the headquarters of the Moldovan Writers’ Union (USM).
More well-known writers attended the event, along with Titus Stirbu. At the event, USM head Teo Chiriac awarded to Titus Stirbu, Honorary Diploma of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, on the occasion of the 80th and for special contribution to the creation and promotion of literature for children from Moldova.
Titus Stirbu was born in the Cenusa village, northern Floresti district, on 3 July 1942. He studied at the Moldovan State University, the History and Philology Faculty (1959-1964). Subsequently, he worked at the National Television (1966-1976), as head of the Book’s Friends Republican Society (1978-1984), referent, consultant and then secretary of the Moldovan Writers’ Union (1984-1991), adviser and director general of the State Committee for Publishing Houses, Polygraphy and Trade with Books (1992-94), secretary of the Council of the National Cinematography Centre (1994-1999), chief specialist of the Department for Interethnic Relations and Functioning of Languages (1999-2001). During 2022-2008, Stirbu was editor of the editorial service of the Universul Publishing House. Starting from 2008 till 2021, he worked at USM.
In 1973, Stirbu debuted as writer with poems for children. He translated from literature for children and folklore of world’s nations. In 2010, Titus Stirbu was awarded the honorific title of Master of Literature and in 2015 – the Labour Glory order. He was also awarded more literary prizes.
