Number of COVID-19 cases increase by 82 per cent in Moldova in last week

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ - The number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 82 per cent in the last week and orange code of coronavirus was declared in Chisinau. Health Minister Ala Nemerenco made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
According to the official, 1,850 cases and 14 deaths were recorded on this period, against three deaths in the week before, ‘’Over 20,000 tests were made. As many as 220 children and 13 pregnant women were confirmed positive with COVID-19. A high rate of infectiousness is recorded, but with lighter forms. Nevertheless, green code of Covid-19 remains in Moldova and orange code was declared in Chisinau. At the same time, yellow code of coronavirus was announced in the Ialoveni and Anenii Noi settlements. In these settlements, the territorial public health commissions are to hold meetings on the present situation and the measures undertaken by the local authorities,’’ Ala Nemerenco said.
The minister recommended that the citizens observe the hygiene measures and wear protection masks. ‘’We also recommend that people isolate themselves from those who have respiratory symptoms. The health authorities are ready to intervene. The medical institutions are prepared; we have enough tests and medicines,’’ Ala Nemerenco noted.
The director of the National Public Health Agency, Nicolae Jelamschi, stressed that the new wave of coronavirus would record an increase till next mid-August and afterwards the situation would improve. ‘’To easier overcome this wave, we recommend that the citizens get vaccinated. Thus, over 23,000 people were immunized last week. The Chisinau and Soroca municipalities are leaders in terms of vaccination, while Gagauzia and the Leova district are the last in this ranking. Over 13,000 children were vaccinated in all and the third dose was administered by over 31 per cent of the population,’’ Jelamschi said.
The health sector authorities are to establish the strains of the current wave of coronavirus. At the same time, the Health Ministry will soon present a decision on the fourth dose of vaccine.
