Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office, European Public Prosecutor's Office to exchange strategic information

Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) of Moldova and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) will cooperate at the high level and will exchange strategic information. The measures are included in an agreement signed by acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu and European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kövesi, on an official visit to Chisinau.
The document was signed at a bilateral meeting and provides for the cooperation, in order to protect the financial interests of EU in Moldova. The main sectors regulated are: submitting evidence or getting the extradition of people sought, blocking of criminal assets, by levying distraint or through issuance of orders on freezing, as well as the creation of joint inquiry teams.
At the meeting, the officials touched upon the developments recorded in the process of investigation of corruption cases and perspectives of cooperation between the two institutions through carrying out exchange of information and experience, as well as operational cooperation in investigating cases.
Acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu said that the ‘’investigation of files on corruption, of the ones on embezzlement of state’s heritage and following criminal assets represents a priority of Moldova’s Prosecutor General’s Office.’’
For her part, Laura Codruta Kövesi stressed that the ‘’European Public Prosecutor’s Office, within the limit of its competences, will support the work of Moldova’s Prosecutor General’s Office.’’
The sides also agreed on the fact that EPPO would back PG in the investigation and criminal prosecution of financial and corruption offences.
