Moldovan PM says promotion of reforms underway stays priority even on this difficult period

Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - The priorities of Moldova’s cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and EBRD Vice President Alain Pilloux. The sides stressed the importance of strengthening the joint efforts, in order to overcome the social and economic consequences of the war in Ukraine and of the crises triggered by the latter in various sectors, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.   

The PM appreciated the support provided by EBRD to Moldova, noting the importance of the further development of the strategic partnership between the sides, meant to foster the government’s efforts in the promotion of the key reforms. ‘’Even on this difficult period for us, when we are focused on the maintaining of stability in the country and providing support to Ukrainian citizens, the promotion of the reforms underway stays a priority. We believe in the result of these reforms and we are determined to work in continuation, in order to find the best solutions of crises’ efficient management,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.      

In the context, the sides referred to the importance of strengthening Moldova’s energy system. In this respect, EBRD has recently provided Moldova with a loan worth 300 million euros. A part of this sum will be used for the creation of strategic stocks of natural gas and the other part will be used for procurements in emergency cases, if the supply is interrupted. In particular, the officials emphasized the need to diversify the energy resources, as well as to carry out the projects on buildings’ thermal insulation.    

For his part, Alain Pilloux highlighted the EBRD’s willingness to provide, if necessary, additional assistance, including through counseling and technical assistance: ‘’Moldova is an absolute priority for EBRD. We will do our utmost to help you achieve the goals set and overcome the difficulties exiting at present,’’ Alain Pilloux said.

The officials also discussed the ensuring of Moldova’s food security, including through the continuous modernization of the river and land infrastructure.
