Moldovan Constitutional Court declares inadmissibility of Socialists' notification contesting extension of emergency state

Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Constitutional Court (CCM) has declared as inadmissible a notification submitted by the Party of Socialists (PSRM), through which the extension of the emergency state in Moldova was contested.   

The notification was submitted by PSRM MP Vasile Bolea on 30 June. Bolea said that the emergency state would have been prolonged in an unjustified way, given that, according to him, ‘’on that period, the flow of refugees represented a consumed fact and the risk for the energy security would not need the extension of the emergency state.’’ On 24 February 2022, the parliament declared state of emergency for a period of 60 days, which on 21 April was prolonged for another 60 days. Subsequently, on 23 June, at a proposal by the government, which had at the basis the Report by the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE), the parliament extended the emergency state by 45 days.   

Following the consideration of the notification, CCM found out that, according to CSE’s Report, ‘’the extension of the emergency state was justified by the need to ensure the national and energy security of the country, to manage the flow of refugees, logistic chains, ensure the security at the border and the public order.’’    

The Constitutional Court’s ruling is final, cannot be subjected to any appeal, enters into force on the date of adoption and is published in Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
