Period when father can take paternity leave extended in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today adopted the extension of the period when father can take paternity leave from 56 days to 12 months.
The legislative initiative has the goal to ensure the balance between labour and family life, as well as provide more options of fathers’ involvement in taking care of the child.
At the same time, the draft provides for giving the right to share the child-care leave between the spouses. The allowance will be calculated depending in the salary of the parent on leave.
Also, the parliament established a new option for the providing of the child-care allowance. The parent who goes on leave will be able to opt for an allowance of 90 per cent of the salary for the last 12 months, if he/she chooses to take it till the age of 1 year and 2 months of the child. At the same time, the present options remain valid as well: 3 years of allowance – with 30 per cent of the salary or up to 2 years and 2 months.
