Moldovan government to allocate over 300 million lei for education and research system

Chisinau, 15 July /MOLDPRES/ - The government of Moldova will allocate 290 million lei (about 1.4.4 million euros) for 13 education institutions which will carry out 20 projects. Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala made statements to this effect at a news conference today.  

„These projects are for teachers and students. We will also earmark 23 million lei for research. Thus, the overall sum allocated for the education and research system stands at more than 300 million lei,’’ the official specified.  

The minister stressed that ‘’any process of change brings questions on behalf of those who are in the middle of events. I promise that the result would be better for people, both for teachers and researchers and for their student or so, we keep our promise.’’

„All those involved in the process of reformation of the higher education institutions will have only to benefit and we will start the university year more united, with more solidarity and more advanced, in order to give to students the future they want and they deserve, here, at home and now,’’ Anatolie Topala said.    

The cabinet of ministers this week approved the decision on the reorganization through merger (absorption) of institutions in the field of education, research and innovation. Also, amendments were made also to earlier cabinet decisions, in order to provide high quality education and in accordance with the increasing demands of the society and the labour market.   

The normative acts see the consolidation of the network of universities nationally and internationally through the absorption of smaller institutions, merger of research institutions with universities  - with separate preservation of financing for the research sector, as well as directing public expenses  from the higher education and research to increasing the salaries of the university staff and researchers.
