Moldovan writer passes away

Chisinau, 17 July /MOLDPRES/ - A poet, prose writer, dramatist, laureate of more literary prizes, former professor at the Alecu Russo State University from Balti, Gheorghe Calamanciuc, died at the age of 77 years on 16 July.

According to academician Mihai Cimpoi, Gheorghe Calamanciuc asserted himself in all literary genres.

Gheorghe Calamanciuc was born in Mihoreni village, Herta district, Ukraine, on 7 February 1945. He graduated from the Alecu Russo Pedagogical Institute from Balti. Calamanciuc worked as school headmaster, teacher of Romanian language, lecturer at the Alecu Russo State pedagogical University, literary editor at the Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre from Balti.

Gheorghe Calamanciuc will be buried in Balti on 19 July.
