Moldova to have customs attaché officers to defend country's interests abroad

Chisinau, 26 August /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will soon have at least three customs issues advisers (customs attaché), who will defend the country's interests in this field abroad, including within international and European institutions, under a decision approved by the government today.
"The institute of customs attaché with diplomatic status in foreign countries is a well-developed international practice, which provides an efficient platform for multilateral and bilateral dialogue", Deputy Finance Minister Maria Caraus said. The powers of customs attaches in foreign countries covers customs advocacy and representation of customs interests in the country of accreditation, cooperation development, ensuring the implementation of international treaties, information exchange, combating cross-border economic crimes.
The cabinet established customs attaché units at the Mission of Moldova to the European Union, Permanent Mission of the Moldova to the United Nations Office in Geneva and Moldova’s Embassy in Russia.
The customs adviser unit is complemented by the official representative of the Customs Service, who is confirmed by the Foreign and European Integration Minister. The customs attaché to Russia is appointed by a government decision.
