Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet along with President Nicolae Timofti, Speaker Adrian Candu, as well as cabinet members, representatives of diplomatic staff today laid flowers at Stefan cel Mare monument, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
Attending the event was also a delegation from Romania, headed by Prime Minister Victor Ponta, on an official visit to Chisinau.
The Moldovan and Romanian officials laid flowers at the Grieving Mother monument.
Strelet conveyed a congratulatory message on the 24th anniversary since proclamation of independence.
"Dear friends and fellow citizens,
Today, our country marks the 24th anniversary of independence. I am sure that today Moldova needs new energy and revival as much as 24 years ago.
I am sure we will manage, but we have to work together, through support and cooperation. Protests, street events, destructive remarks promoted during the last time might deepen systemic crisis.
On 27 August 1991 we proclaimed independence.
The government is firmly determined to devote efforts on behalf of citizens and future of Moldova.
We can succeed only through sincerity, dedication, hard work and strengthening our society.
Dear citizens of Moldova,
I urge you not to be provoked and manipulated by those displaying a false love to country, streamlining to new political and economic crisis. Moldova has to advance for modernisation and real European integration. I wish a beautiful celebration. "
