Moldovan premier meets Diaspora representatives in Italy

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet met representatives of the Moldovan diaspora, during his visit to Milan 2015 international exhibition, in Italy, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Strelet unveiled the government’s priorities and actions taken to settle the financial-banking situation. He also touched upon the justice reform, curbing corruption as well as the development of the Moldovan settlements’ infrastructure. “The EU integration is the only choice Moldova has. We must continue reforms to modernise the country, create new jobs, attract foreign investments and boost the economy,” the premier said.  

The sides also tried to find solutions to more problems the Moldovan Diaspora is currently facing. According to the prime minister, one of his Cabinet’s main goals is to defend the interests of the Moldovans abroad, including those living in Italy. “We will make efforts to sign agreements on social protection, labour migration and projects on improving migration policies and processes management,” the premier noted.

Strelet said that the Italian authorities and businesspeople were willing to further support the Moldovan Diaspora. He urged the Diaspora to return home and launch businesses in Moldova, yet, keep in touch with their Italian friends and business partners.

For their part, the Moldovan Diaspora representatives called for an ongoing and effective dialogue with the Moldovan authorities. They were confident that things would improve in Moldova, hoping for more meetings at this level.

The premier and the Diaspora representatives met at Moldova’s pavilion at the Expo Milano 2015 international exhibition. Moldovan Ambassador to Italy Stela Stingaci as well as Italian authorities also attended the meeting.
