Moldova marks Romanian Language Day

Chisinau, 31 August /MOLDPRES/- The celebration started with a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Moldova’s medieval ruler Stefan cel Mare, in Chisinau this morning.
Attending the event were Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, MPs, cabinet members, representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Chisinau, officials as well as residents and guests of the capital. Similar events took place all over Moldova.
Officials gave festive speeches on the Classics Alley in Chisinau downtown. There were also poetry recitations and music performances. A house-musem in the memory of departed poet Grigore Vieru was inaugurated after restoration in Pererita village, Briceni district, at 11:00.
The National Library hosts the inauguration of the International Book Salon at 12:00, whereas the Moldexpo International Exhibition Centre invites to an exhibition-contest of contemporary art, “Moldovan salons”, at 15:00.
A concert on the occasion of the Romanian Language Day will be organised on the Great National Assembly Square at 17:30.
