Moldovan parliament speaker attends inauguration of national poet Grigore Vieru house-museum

Chisinau, 31 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Grigore Vieru house-museum was inaugurated in the poet’s home village of Pererita, Briceni district, today. Grigore Vieru's native home was restored within a project initiated by the Culture Ministry, being inaugurated in the year the poet would have turned 80, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega, Culture Minister Monica Babuc, Youth and Sports Minister Loretta Handrabura, Briceni district head Mihail Gnatiuc, representatives of local public authorities, the family of the poet Grigore Vieru, writers, actors, the poet’s friends and colleagues, fellow villagers and admirers of his works attended the event.
The speaker expressed gratitude and appreciation for the literary legacy left by the poet Grigore Vieru - poems full of sensitivity about language, nation, mother, also being the first lyrics that children learn.
"The orphan home of the poet was full today, of people and joy, and Grigore Vieru returned home through his poetry. We must honour the memory and live by the words of Grigore Vieru", said Speaker of Parliament.
Culture Minister Monica Babuc said the opening of the museum was an act of high appreciation of the poet, which would highlight his literary heritage. "The Grigore Vieru house-museum brings him closer to us. I hope that pilgrims from all over the Romanian space will come to worship the one who built the icon of this nation", said Monica Babuc.
The first gift to the museum complex came from Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu - a painting depicting Grigore Vieru, signed by painter Leonid Popescu.
Renowned artists, as well as local students prepared a touching artistic programme that included poetry recitals and music with lyrics by Grigore Vieru. Moreover, the poet’s bust was unveiled in the courtyard of the house-museum and a group of priests officiated a religious ceremony of consecration of the museum complex.
An exhibition on the creation of Grigore Vieru is open to for the general public. It contains poetry volumes published over the years, manuscripts, photography, volumes of translations and literary criticism.
