Thousands of Moldovans protest in centre of Chisinau

Chisinau, 6 September /MOLDPRES/ - Thousands of people participated in a protest rally on the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau today.
People who had come from all over Moldova shouted anti-governmental slogans, waved flags and demanded that the authorities find the billion of euros stolen from the banking system. More opinion leaders, political analysts, writers, farmers and artists gave speeches at the event.
At the rally, the citizens filed claims, among which the resignation of President Nicolae Timofti, organisation of snap elections before March 2016, election of the Moldovan president by direct voting, resignation of the persons in charge of the robbery in the banking system, the head of the National Anti-Corruption Centre and Prosecutor General.
By 15:00, a working group made of protesters presented the claims to Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, who summoned the ministers in charge of the financial and social sectors to a meeting due at 17:00. "The participants in the meeting will consider the claims and will look for solutions to the problems pointed by the society," Strelet said.
Also today, the citizens participated in a protest march titled "People's Mobilization." The today's protests were organised by the Dignity and Truth Platform.
