Chisinau, 7 September /MODLPRES/- A number of 43 top wines from 16 local producers have been selected to be included in a guide titled: „The Wine Book of Romania”, the first project, bringing together the best wines from Romania and Moldova.
About 250 wine samples were tasted and appreciated at the most ample evaluation of wines from the region in all. Out of 46 wines made by the Moldovan companies, pre-selected to participate in the evaluation, an international jury selected 43 ones, that will appear in the guide "The Wine Book of Romania”.
The director of the National Wine and Vine Office, Dumitru Munteanu, said that the 43 selected wines had an enormous potential to promote the national brand to new sales markets. "The fact that all the 16 top companies from Moldova, attending the event, will enter the guide, proves that our strategy, aimed at improving the wine quality, yields outstanding results," he said.
Along with the best Romanian wines, the book will comprise Moldovan wines made by Salcuta, Vinaria din Vale, Fautor, Vinaria Poiana, Minis Terrios, Suvorov Vin, Chateau Vartely, Molda, Chi, Asconi, Carpe Diem, Crescendo, Purcari, Gitana, Et Cetera and Cricova.
Traditional varietal wines, cultivated in Romania and Moldova, were selected at the contest too. Among them, there are Feteasca Regala, Feteasca Neagra, Rara Neagra, Negru de Dragasani, Zghihara and Tamaioasa Romaneasca, as well as international classic varietal wines, the most appreciated being Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot.
All the 16 Moldovan wineries participating in the contest received top marks from the jury, made up of eight international experts, three of whom have the Master of Wine high degree. The event took place in Cund, Mures county, Romania, on 26-27 August.
The guide will be launched in March 2016 and will represent a complex instrument of knowing and classification of top wines from Romania and Moldova for specialists, importers and wide public.
