Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - New local elections will be held in the settlements of Cosernita, central Criuleni district and Lingura, southern Cantemir district, on 15 November, according to a decision approved by the Central Electoral Commission today.
The reason for carrying out the polls is the fact that, after the last June elections, the local councillors had failed to convene at foundation meetings, for lack of quorum.
Under the legislation, if more than 50 per cent of the local councillors do not participate in three meetings in a row, the local council can be dissolved.
The are 11 local councillors in each of the two settlements, and no formation has majority.
