Moldovan premier presents government report for first 42 days of activity

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today presented the government’s activity report for the first 42 days in office. The premier referred to the main objectives on the government programme and the actions carried out to this effect.
"We are at a crossroads, the situation is getting tenser, and we must calm society. Thus, under certain socio-political circumstances, I considered it necessary to present a list of the government’s main achievements implemented within the first 42 days of activity", the prime minister said at a press conference occasioned by the presentation of the report.
The restoration of relations with key development partners and preparation for the International Monetary Fund experts’ visit, scheduled to begin on 22 September are among the main objectives Valeriu Strelet referred to.
Another objective is addressing the situation in the banking sector. Among the actions taken are the decision to liquidate the three banks and choosing the company that will investigate the case of the fraud in the banking sector, in coordination with the National Bank. Valeriu Strelet said he requested the report on the airport’s concession, which would be submitted till 25September.
According to the prime minister, the government paid special attention to boosting the consolidation of the country, establishing a joint control at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. Furthermore, the conditions to restructure the National Participation Council (NPC) were reviewed.
"We had a good dialogue with insurers, businesspeople, as well as others, we ensured that remuneration of wages and social payments will be carried out at the same pace, we started the new anti-corruption strategy", the premier said.
"During this period we established a constructive dialogue with the business environment which resulted in the liquidation of arrears of subsidies in agriculture, removing the risk of Moldova being excluded from the Green Book. By 25 September we will have a response from the commission on the conditions under which the Chisinau International Airport was conceded”, the prime minister said.
"Our strategic objective is and remains European integration. We updated the Action Plan on the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, as well as the government’s Activity Plan for August 2015 - December 2016”, the premier said.
The prime minister assured the citizens that the government he led would continue its work as long as they had the political support of the parliament. Strelet reiterated his public apology to citizens who "had to go out and protest."
The parliament passed a motion of confidence for the government led by Valeriu Strelet on 30 July. The Cabinet was invested by a vote of 52 MPs from the Democratic Liberal Party, Democratic Party and the Liberal Party factions.
