Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - Unique scanning equipment for Moldova was put into operation at the Leuseni customs checkpoint today.

According to the Customs Service, the stationary scanning equipment was built with the support of the Embassy of China in Moldova, which provided a grant worth 60 million lei.

The new equipment allows the discovery of contraband ways which cannot be detected by traditional methods of control. Due to this scanner, customs officers will be able to discover a hidden or suspicious cargo in record time, identify dangerous goods, undeclared or hidden by citizens.

Using the new scanner will greatly reduce the customs check and vehicles’ standing time, respectively.

Stationary scanners are widely used by the customs authorities in more European Union countries.
