Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - The biggest Moldovan bread producer, Franzeluta Joint Venture, has suspended the new prices for bakery products, less than a month after the prices for these goods increased by up to 15 per cent. The company's management board, at a today meeting, took into account when adopting the decision, that the price for wheat on the local market had not been set as yet, and the decision on increasing tariffs for gas and power was suspended.
According to a press release by Franzeluta, „the prices for bread will get back to the level recorded till the adjustment” starting from 11 September.
The Bakers' Association and National Association of Baking and Flour Milling Industries informed on a 15-per cent increase in bread prices starting from 15 August. A 24.4-per cent rise in flour price, increase of tariffs for electricity and gas, as well as the depreciation of the national currency led to an increase of bread price, bakers said. Only three bakeries out of more than 20 increased the prices.
The Competition Council (CC) has initiated an investigation on the increase in price of bread. After meeting bakers' representatives, CC Head Viorica Carare said that the decision on rise in price was illegal and anti-competition, and producers ran the risk to be fined.
