Middle East states interested to take over Moldovan experience in elections

Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman today met a delegation of representatives of candidates from Middle East states and members of the Organisation of Arab Electoral Management Bodies (Arab EMBS), on a visit to Chisinau on the occasion of the 24th Conference of the Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO). The sides discussed national practices in electoral matters, which might constitute a landmark for the states of the Middle East.
Minister Natalia Gherman told interlocutors about the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s experience in organising and conducting parliamentary elections abroad, given that presidents of the electoral bureau of the polling stations established abroad, according to the Electoral Code, are selected within institutions of the diplomatic service. In this context, the participants uin the meeting expressed interest to take over the Foreign Ministry’s experience in conducting elections abroad.
Central Electoral Commission Chairman Iurie Ciocan said that the CEC and the Centre for Continuing Education under the CEC had managed to become effective institutions in a very a short time by organising training courses involving electoral public servants from all over Moldova.
For their part, Middle East states’ electoral representatives showed interest to return to Chisinau for training sessions, that would allow them taking over Moldova’s experience in the electoral sector.
