Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ - Thousands of people today participated in a new protest action against the government on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN). The protesters demanded resignation of the Moldovan top leadership and organisation of snap elections.
People coming from all over Moldova, as well as those who stayed in tents set in PMAN during all the week shouted anti-governmental slogans, waved flags and demanded that the authorities find the money stolen from the banking system. More opinion leaders, political analysts, writers, young persons and farmers gave speeches at the rally.
The speakers said that they would soon provide an alternative to the ruling parties. "We will create a party due to represent the interests, as well as the force of the people, and the country might be led by an alternative government, in which all citizens are to be represented, till the organisation of snap polls in next spring," one of the protesters' leaders, Vasile Nastase, has said.
"We want Moldova to be a modernised, European country, able to find its niche in EU. Our task is to set the state free from captivity, we want our country back. We want consolidation of the civil society, divided according to diverse criteria and demand organisation of snap elections," political pundit Igor Botan said.
The protesters' leaders said they would not give up the claims filed at the 6 September rally and would continue protesting both on PMAN and in more Moldovan cities and towns.
Actions organised by the Interior Ministry were to take place on PMAN today; yet, they were cancelled because of the protests. Also, several entertainment events, scheduled for September, will be organised in other areas than the centre of Chisinau.
