Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ - The prosecutor of Chisinau municipality, Ion Diacov, has criticised the new draft law on prosecution and showed discontent with the composition of the working group for developing the strategy of prosecution reform.
At a today news conference, Ion Diacov said that the new law on prosecution ”should include an item through which prosecutors should be provided the statute of magistrate. Major changes will really occur in the judiciary system only in this way,” Diacov said.
Diacov added that ”the present law on prosecution should not be amended fully or radically, as it includes some chapters which ensure the good work and which clearly delimits the responsibilities of prosecutors."
Ion Diacov also underlined that, though the new draft law on Prosecution includes modern ideas and solutions to fight against corruption, they ”do not cover the main problems the institution is facing."
At the same time, Diacov highlighted that, in order to really reform this body, ”it is necessary to implement a functional model in the judiciary system, as it exists in the European states”.
Ion Diacov also unveiled a string of recommendations and conclusions to MPs, whom he urged to take these into consideration when giving final touches to the draft.
The new draft law on Prosecution was passed by the MPs in the first reading and is to be adopted in the final reading.
