Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/- Officials and civil servants could be obliged to denounce acts of corruption they found out, according to a draft law on obligation of reporting corruption, approved by the government today.

"People having the public positions are forced to report corruption, issues related to corruption and facts of corruptive behavior which became known during their duties", the draft said. The provision is applied in the case of party leaders or social-political organisation, heads of state enterprises or public institutions.

Public notaries, lawyers, bailiffs, private judicial experts, mediators etc. are referring to the law.

Under the law, if a person holding a public position finds out about committing an act of corruption, is obliged to notify about it to the National Anti-corruption Centre within three days, otherwise he/she risks being disciplinary sanctioned. Denouncer risks criminal file in case it is set that he/she reported false information.

Corruption affects the business environment, judicial system, incomes of population and state, education quality and health care, as well as life quality in general, a note by the Justice Ministry said.

The draft is meant to identify cases of corruption.

The law is to be adopted by parliament in order to enter into force.
