Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/- The removal of corrupted persons of the judicial system would be the single way to root out corruption. Prosecutor of Chisinau city Ion Diacov made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
Diacov said that ”the Moldovan judicial system has to be reformed not by modifying laws, but by eliminating those corrupted persons who are not competent to ensure the good functioning of the legal framework”.
In this respect, Ion Diacov provided as an example a case of the Chisinau City Prosecution. Diacov accuses three judges of the Chisinau Court of Appeal of influence peddling, as they released from arrest a person suspected of illegal affairs with drugs on 23 September.
”The judges admitted the lawyer's appeal and delivered the order to put under home arrest a Russian citizen, arrested in Moldova, who is suspected of international drug traffic in a large quantity, this in the context when he has no official and stable domicile in Moldova,” Diacov said.
Ion Diacov added that a group, made up of 40 people, was monitored for two years. They were bringing cannabis from Spain and distributed it in Russia. As a result of investigations and actions undertaken by authorities, six persons were detained in Moldova, one in Belarus, and another two in Russia .
Diacov forwarded a notification to the General Prosecutor's Office and Superior Council of Magistracy, by which requests to be examined the legality of actions of those three judges, who issued the ordinance to put the culprit under home arrest.
