UN reconfirms Moldova's support

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today met UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative for Moldova Dafina Gercheva, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The premier welcomed existence of the government's strategic partnership with UN Office in Moldova. He thanked for the technical assistance offered to Moldova in promoting the development goals, including implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement with EU, signed in 2014.
The project on confidence building measures between the communities from the two banks of the Dniestre was among the important issues discussed at the event. Another topic was related to the visit of FAO mission in Moldova, assessing the situation in agriculture and consequences of drought in 2015. Assessment will allow to take quick measures to decrease the consequences of drought and recover agrarian system. "Reformation of public administration must consolidate the institution capacity and stop emigration of young specialists from the country. Transformations will make Moldova a competitive and prosperous country", Strelet said.
Dafina Gercheva reiterated openness to continue cooperation with Moldovan government, as well as to support via projects implemented by UNDP. The representative reconfirmed the implementation of the Partnership Agreement with UN as a priority. The official highlighted the importance of the meeting in the context of adopting a new post-2015 global agenda within the UN Summit, held in New York today, and of Strelet's participation in the 70th high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly.
Moldova joined United Nations on 2 March 1992. The budget of the Partnership Agreement for 2013-2017 is estimated at over 2 billion dollars and is distributed to the 21 agencies and programmes, resident in Moldova. UNDP is one of the largest UN agencies having a budget worth 20 million dollars for 2015.
