Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - The National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) has started about 500 criminal files regarding public servants and half of them are to reach the courts. CNA Head Viorel Chetraru made statements to this effect at a conference dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Regional Anticorruption Initiative (RAI) today.
Viorel Chetraru said that „it does not matter the position the servant holds in situation when he committed corruption acts, but it is important that latter to be punished pursuant to the law”.
Chetraru also added that CNA's role is to ”transform corruption acts from a non-dangerous activity which brings profit into a very dangerous and unprofitable one”.
Attending the event also was Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin. Gurin said that „the present legal framework is capable to ensure fight against corruption, but we still have a lot to work as to institutional mechanisms, endowing law-enforcement bodies and approach towards corruption phenomenon”.
The regional conference titled „Years of reforms – what worked the best” brought together in Chisinau heads and representatives of anticorruption bureaus from Poland, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, etc. Attending the event also were representatives of NGOs independent anticorruption experts.
