Moldovan speaker meets IMF experts' delegation

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met the team of experts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, today. IMF delegation is on a working visit to Moldova on 22 September – 6 October, in the context of preparing for periodic consultations for 2015 and initiating talks on policies which might lay the basis of a programme supported by IMF, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The officials addressed IMF' delegations goals, political and economic evolutions in Moldova, prospects of IMF cooperation with Moldova in the months to come.
Candu highlighted the priorities of legislative agenda for the autumn session and reconfirmed the authorities' engagements in order to ensure the standard framework necessary to speed up reforms, adopt legislative packages in the agricultural and financial and banking sectors, budgetary and fiscal policy.
Candu said that the cooperation ties with IMF were very important for Moldova, latter being interested in developing collaboration, including the Fund's expertise in assessing the activity of the National Bank of Moldova and improving the financial and banking environment in Moldova in order to avoid further situations when the state's financial stability might be put into danger.
Referring to goals of IMF experts' mission and initiating talks on new programme supported by IMF, Candu specified that „it is about a process and, namely, steps to agree policies which the government is to implement and, at the same time, about some IMF internal procedures”.
„IMF wants to see in Moldova's authorities a stable partner, ready to assume new commitments. Based on previous talks, we believe that there is the possibility that, in early 2016, once IMF internal procedures completed, to have a new assistance programme with the International Monetary Fund,” Candu said.
For her part, Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar welcomed measures undertaken by the Moldovan authorities in order to improve situation in the financial and banking sector. The official confirmed the openness for a constructive dialogue with Moldovan institutions during her mandate.
Moldova became IMF member on 12 August 1992. The last IMF programme with Moldova was completed in April 2013. Moldova benefited from assistance in amount of about 577.15 million dollars.
