Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta after the government meeting today said that the Memorandum on granting a reimbursable loan in the amount of 150 million euros to Moldova was approved.
"We approved the Memorandum on the repayable loan to Moldova. I will find Prime Minister Strelet to give him the news, but he is currently in New York. The rest of the procedures will subsequently be carried out in Bucharest and Chisinau. I think it is important to give the Chisinau-based pro-European government a breath of air", said Victor Ponta.
"We have the Memorandum on approving the reimbursable grant agreement, amounting to 150 million euros for Moldova. It is a difficult time and if we will not help them, there is no one to help them", the prime minister said in the opening of the government meeting.
"At this point if we do not help them, the country can reach a situation where the pro-Russian political forces once again take control over Moldova, like 70 years ago, and I think it is our fundamental duty", said Ponta. The high official added that he would forward the draft to the parliament.
"We sign the agreement, we send the draft law. I presented it to the ruling coalition, I told the president of the country, I hope for a consensus and strong support in Romania, in Bucharest, for this aid that is currently needed and without which our efforts of bringing Moldova on the European path and closer to Romania – something we are all aiming for - can be lost", the Romanian prime minister concluded.
The Moldovan government approved a decision on starting negotiations for the loan agreement with the Romanian government on 23 September.
