Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - The National Bank will put into circulation seven upgraded banknotes with nominal value of 1 leu, 10 lei, 20 lei, 50 lei, 100 lei, 200 lei and 500 lei, as means of payment.
The National Bank’s decision of 24 September on the release of the new banknotes starting 12 October was published in the Official Journal today.
The modernised banknotes with the nominal value of 1 leu, 10 lei, 20 lei, 50 lei, 100 lei, 200 lei and 500 lei will be accepted at face value in all kinds of payments without restrictions. The upgraded banknotes will be put in circulation progressively as stocks of banknotes issued in the years 1993 to 2013 deplete.
The old banknotes will continue to represent legal means of payment on the territory of Moldova, along with the modernised banknotes and will be accepted at their nominal value for all kinds of payments without restrictions. The old banknotes will be gradually withdrawn from circulation due to deterioration.
