World Bank conducts study on energy tariffs in Moldova

Chisinau, 6 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today attended the presentation of the Study on heating and electricity tariffs and affordability analysis, elaborated by the World Bank team with financial support from the Energy Sector Management Assistance Programme (ESMAP), the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The study presents forecasts of the evolution of electricity tariffs and heat till 2020 in various scenarios, analyses the social protection mechanisms used in Moldova and formulates more proposals to the authorities.

According to the study, during the reference period, the costs for heating and electricity will gradually evolve, depending on more parameters and factors. At the same time, experts presented a series of proposals to adjust social assistance programmes to offset any increase in energy costs, noting that Moldova had a reliable system of social assistance.
