Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/-Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur and Secretary of State of the State North Carolina (USA) Elaine Marshall signed a memorandum of principles and procedures on strengthening bilateral relations between Moldova and the American state of North Carolina in Chisinau today.
Galbur described Moldova’s cooperation ties with the state of North Carolina as a “privileged partnership” with a history of almost 20 years.
According to him, Mrs. Marshall’s visit was a good occasion to summon a meeting of the North-Carolina- Moldova bilateral committee and to countersign the revised and completed version of the memorandum.
The memorandum was extended for a five-year period. “The partnership between the Moldovan defence ministry and North Carolina’s Army National Guard, which had been established in early 1990s, has gradually developed and extended into other sectors. Today, we discussed commercial and economic ties, as well as cooperation in the justice and public security fields, regional development , tourism, environmental protection, youth and sports,” the Moldovan official said.
Andrei Galbur also noted that the signing of the memorandum was meant to consolidate efforts of Moldova’s and the United States to strengthen and fortify the strategic dialogue, launched in 2014.
The Moldovan foreign ministry is looking forward to cooperating with other U.S. states, where numerous Moldovan citizens live, such as Pennsylvania, California, Washington.
“Our relationship has developed with time and it will definitely extend. Therefore, I will take efforts to redirect more resources towards Moldovan citizens when I get back to North Carolina. All we can do is to improve people’s life. We guarantee you our full attention,” Elaine Marshall said.
