Moldova willing to enhance strategic dialogue with USA

Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today met U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bridget Brink, on a working visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Strelet said the USA was an extremely important partner for Moldova. He spoke out for the enhancement of the Moldovan-USA strategic dialogue, which serves as a multidimensional development platform for bilateral cooperation in various sectors of common interest. “We firmly declare for carrying out the next Moldova-USA meeting on strategic dialogue as soon as possible,” the premier said. He reiterated Moldova’s interest in boosting cooperation in the energy sector and becoming eligible to participate in a new Compact Programme of the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Strelet added that fighting corruption was one of the government’s priorities, along with its commitment to implement a string of ambitious and vital reforms.  

The Moldovan official thanked the U.S. government for backing Moldova in the implementation of reforms and modernisation projects.

For her part, Brink said it was important to ensure the supremacy of the law, continue reforms, especially in the justice and anti-corruption sectors.  The American official reiterated the U.S. support for Moldova’s development in various fields.

The sides also tackled the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and Moldova’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to Bridget Brink, the USA will take efforts to help the country sign the agreement with the IMF as soon as possible.
