Moldovan parliament, government, civil society opt for radical, urgent measures to fight corruption

Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/- The parliamentary working group for reforming and relaunching the anti-corruption system will develop and present to the parliament legislative proposals on amending and completing legal framework in the anti-corruption sector by late next November. The group is launched on parliamentary platform, following an initiative by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, Justice Minister Vladimir Cebotari, Head of EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola, World Bank country manager Alex Kremer, as well as representatives of the civil society, members of the legal commission on rules and immunities, headed by Raisa Apolschi, today approached the task of the working group, as well as actions the authorities are to undertake to optimise the fight against corruption.
Both the authorities and civil society highlighted the importance of concrete results in fighting corruption for further development of Moldova and made an appeal both to the expertise of the civil society and political will for elaboration and quick adoption of the legal framework, on which the advancement of reforms in the sector depends.
The working group is made up of MPs, representing four parliamentary factions, including from opposition, ministers, cabinet members, representatives of institutions specialised in direct fight against corruption, as well as the civil society, Office of Council of Europe and EU Delegation in Moldova.
Among the group's goals, there are consideration of the present legal framework and detecting legal, institutional and procedural gaps in the prevention and combating the corruption phenomenon. At the same time, the group's members are to examine different visions and propose urgent and radical solutions, due to be taken by parliament and government, in order to get concrete results in fighting corruption.
The first working meeting of the group is scheduled for next week to set the agenda and deadlines on goals.
