Chisinau, 13 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Chamber of Deputies of Romania today ratified the agreement on refundable financial assistance worth 150 million euros between Romania and Moldova with 312 votes for and three abstentions. The document was signed in Chisinau on 7 October 2015.
The loan will be provided for a five-year repayment period, with 1.5-per cent annual interest rate, in three installments. The first one, amounting to 60 million euros, will be offered in 2015; the second installment worth 50 million euros will be provided in 2016 and the third one of 40 million euros - in 2017, under a memorandum signed by the Romanian and Moldovan sides.
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta today said that it was Romania's obligation to help Moldova, stressing that otherwise, Russia would attempt to hinder this country on its European way, the Agerpres news agency said.
"This is our obligation, even if we are older brothers, as we like to say, to help them in these difficult moments," Ponta said at the Palace of Parliament. The prime minister added that the Senate was the decision-taking forum in the case of this agreement, which must be passed by the Moldovan parliament as well.
