Moldovan PM attends public forum on national conciliation

Chisinau, 15 October /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet participated in a public forum on the launch of a dialogue on signing the Social Pact "Pentru Moldova" (For Moldova), on 14 October. Attending the event were President Nicolae Timofti, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, as well as over 70 representatives of civil association, political establishment, academic environment, creation associations, social partners and other public actors, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
An open discussion between the country's leadership and relevant public actors took place at the event. It was meant to build a common platform to consolidate society and ensure development of Moldova.
In his speech, the premier said that the government realized the need to change and settle the problems faced by Moldova in the complicated period. Strelet noted that the government's activity was focused on solving the problems set by protesters, their claims, which coincided with provisions of the government's activity programme and were focused on ensuring economic stability, depoliticising state institutions and ensuring their functionality.
The premier referred to the actions taken by the government team to improve the situation. He pointed out that the action plan on implementing the Association Agreement with EU had been updated to this end. The government focused on macroeconomic stabilisation, remediation of banking sector, relaunch of anticorruption strategy, as well as public administration reform. At the same time, the government was focused on settling the Transnistrian problem, as well as ensuring energy security, holding negotiations with Moldova's partners.
Last but not least, the government is concerned about social payments, wages and pensions. "All these goals can be carried out in terms of a political stability", he said. He called for an efficient cooperation between government and civil society to meet the set goals.
Following a proposal by the premier, sectoral dialogue platforms will be created the next period with participation of representatives of society and public administration aimed to consider both the proposals launched within the public forum and other suggestions to settle the problems in Moldova.
Timofti and Candu also highlighted the importance of keeping a civilised dialogue and stability in the country to ensure further development and improvement of people's life.
The representatives of the three state institutions opted for continuing the dialogue and strengthening efforts of government and civil society in order to overcome the challenges faced by Moldova and to ensure modernisation and development of the country.
