Chisinau, 15 October /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will host the “Week of Action against Human Trafficking” national campaign, on 15-21 October. The event is held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
The campaign is held for the fourth year in a row, in the context of the EU Anti-trafficking Day, marked on 18 October. The event is carried out by the Permanent Secretariat of the National Committee on Combating Human Trafficking (TFU), in cooperation with the Labour, Social Protection and Family Ministry and Moldova’s partners in the implementation of national anti-trafficking policies.
At a news conference in Chisinau today, Deputy Labour, Social Protection and Family Minister Nighina Azizov said the campaign would include a string of events, meant to inform and raise social awareness over human trafficking risks and consequences. The campaign will address national, legal and institutional mechanisms and will tackle the access to justice and the NGOs’ role in this sector.
“Human trafficking is shameful and humiliating. It is important that we cooperate with the civil society to combat this phenomenon. We have created a national reference system to assist human trafficking victims and help them integrate into the community,” Azizov said.
According to the head of the General Prosecution’s Human Trafficking Combating department, Eduard Bulat, Moldovan legislation offers law enforcement bodies the necessary levers to counteract this phenomenon. A strategic analysis report, entitled “Monitoring of the human trafficking situation- analysis of the criminal situation and dynamics in 2014”, will be unveiled during the anti-trafficking week.
People will also be invited to attend an exhibition by young artists from all over the country, on the occasion of the EU Anti-trafficking day, in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul.
Students of law and international relations faculties, as well as, pupils and volunteers will give public lectures on this occasion.
