Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet during a news briefing today, said he had submitted Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti a request to initiate the dismissal of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) head, Viorel Chetraru, from office. Strelet made reference to the article No. 8, paragraph 8, of the law on the National Anticorruption Centre, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The prime minister said that growing corruption perception indices, mentioned in both national and international studies, had been among the reasons of his request.

“We have enough reasons and evidence to believe that the CNA used a discretionary and selective strategy to fight corruption, which resulted in a very low efficiency of this institution,” the premier added.

Strelet said Chetraru’s dismissal from office was one of the protesters’ main demands, especially of the Dignity and Truth Platform, which had been unveiled during the Public Forum on launching a social dialogue to sign the “For Moldova” social pact.
