Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/-The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) disapproves of putting its leader Vlad Filat under preventive arrest. According to a party’s press release, this decision has severely violated his right of defence, infringing an entire string of legal procedures.
”We believe the defence has presented enough evidence, which confirms the illegitimate deprivation of parliamentary immunity and the violation of the presumption of innocence. All the arguments the defence has brought, are sufficient to allow the release of Vlad Filat.
The hasty decisions reveal the political nature of this case, whereas the real culprits behind the frauds at the Savings Bank (Banca de Economii), are now trying to find a scapegoat to divert public opinion from illegalities they continue to commit. Serious concerns are also raised by certain politically affiliated media outlets, which propagate an unfair justice, manipulate public opinion and distort facts to incriminate Vlad Filat.
The PLDM condemns all the defamation actions the party, and especially its leader, Vlad Filat, are subject to.
Despite all the attacks, the PLDM continues to firmly and consistently speak out for building a rule-of-law state, fair justice and an European future for Moldova; it is the party with the highest interest in unveiling the truth about the fraud in the financial-banking system,” the PLDM press release states.
