Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - Employees of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) and the General Prosecution today provided explanations on the criminal case filed against the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Vlad Filat, saying that more people, including officials and politicians, will be interrogated.
At a news conference, prosecutor Adriana Betisor said that Filat was the only defendant in this file so far; however, the CNA had summoned and would continue to summon more individuals, including the head of the Customs Service, Tudor Balitchi.
“The criminal case was filed on the grounds of a self-denouncement, made by the businessman Ilan Shor, who also unveiled a string of confirmed evidence found during searches. Thus, a range of documents confirming the connection to the frauds at the Savings Bank (Banca de Economii/BEM), as well as notes providing for the espionage of certain people, including politicians, had been found,” Betisor said.
She said the damage caused to the state was considerably large; however, it would be possible to specify a certain numerical value of the sum, only after all the evidence and BEM transactions are examined and all the people, indicated in the documents revealed during the searches, are interrogated.
