Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet at a today's news conference informed that he had instructed the setting up of a commission for initiating a contest for the pre- selection of a candidate for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court, the government’s communication and media relations has reported.
“Today we have a vacant mandate for a candidate on behalf of the government. To avoid any public speculations alleging that he/she would represent certain parties, I personally ruled to create a contest commission and announce a pre-selection contest, encouraging all specialists in law, who meet the legal requirements, to apply for this position”, he said.
The premier said the selected candidate would be approved by a government decision. “This is a necessary process, as the Constitutional Court should have a necessary number of judges and be fully functional”, he also said. Strelet voiced hope he would be backed by colleagues from ruling alliance in the process.
The CC is made up of six judges, appointed for a six-year mandate. Two of them are appointed by parliament, two – by government and another two – by the Superior Council of Magistracy.
