Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) today signed a draft law for the amendment of Article 78 of the Constitution on the election of the Moldovan president.
PLDM lawmaker Tudor Deliu has said "the amendments made in 2000 created a deficient constitutional model and triggered blockages during years. Thus, PLDM proposes to the return to the election of the head of state by universal, direct, secret and freely expressed vote."
At the same time, the draft also proposes to change the procedure of dismissal of the head of state by secret voting too, if the president committed serious deeds violating the Constitution's provisions.
Also today, the Liberal Democrats withdraw their signatures from the draft law stipulating the decrease in the number of votes needed for the election of the head of state by the parliament.
The Liberal Democratic Party urges all MPs to back this draft law, so that it could be submitted to the Constitutional Court for approval.
