Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/- The Joint Integrated Local Development Programme (JILDP), at a ceremony held during the FARMER 2015 agricultural exhibition today, offered rural female entrepreneurs 5,000-dollar grant-cheques to develop their businesses.
The JILDP is being implemented by the Moldovan government, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), with the financial support of the Danish and Swedish governments.
“Presently, 17 women are ready to start or expand their business thanks to the programme’s support. We are confident that the programme will help them enhance their confidence level, get higher incomes and achieve a better welfare inside their families. Moreover, we are sure that this support will lead to new jobs and will increase local revenues,” the UN Women representative in Moldova, Ulziisuren Jamsran, said.
“We have the chance to help rural women launch new businesses and also back their professional growth, next to their children and their country,” the UNDP deputy resident representative in Moldova, Narine Sahakyan, said.
Grant beneficiaries own, or are going to start, businesses in fields related to apiculture, zootechnics, food processing, horticulture, gardening, handcrafting, clothing and services.
Entrepreneurs will benefit from financial assistance for one year.
In April 2015, JILDP offered another 38 grants, accounting for up to 5,000 dollars. The 38 entrepreneurs, who benefited from financial support, presented their goods during the FARMER 2015 exhibition and created 140 new jobs in the 30 localities they come from.
