Moldovan PM attends meeting on selecting government’s judge at top court

Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today participated in the first meeting on the election of a candidate for the position of judge, who will represent the government in the Constitutional Court (CC). The talks focused mostly on the commission’s working principles and approval of the regulation on the organisation and unfolding of the contest for the office of government’s judge at the CC, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The participants came up with suggestions to improve the draft regulation, so that it could be published in Moldova’s Official Journal next week. According to them, this would give a start to the contest itself.

The contest is expected to be transparent and ensure free participation access to anyone who meets the established requirements. Participants will be treated equally and will be selected based on their results.

The commission is made up of nine persons, including the former judges at the CC, Victor Puscas and Nicolae Osmochescu, the dean of the Law Faculty of the Moldovan State University, Sergiu Baiesu, as well as representatives of the civil society, and namely, the executive head of the Association for Participatory Democracy, Igor Botan, the head of the Press Council, Ludmila Andronic and the legal adviser of the Centre for Legal Resources, Sorina Macrinici. Representing the government are its deputy secretary general, Roman Cazan and the main legal state adviser of the prime minister, Sergiu Gurduza. Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet is the chairman of the commission.
